NEWMARKET wins third title in a row!
Senior Instructor Shirly Sieh (together with Instructors Steph Bennett, Michael Mills and Essi Suomalainen) led the Newmarket team to yet another Championship. They narrowly crossed the line just in front of Instructor Ben Vickery's team - The Gap. Seven gold, the same amount as 2016, was enough to see Newmarket to their win. The Gap amassed six gold, a great performance. And Kenmore, with 3 gold, are back on the podium in third place, narrowly defeating Indooroopilly.
Over 150 students competed in the Poomsae Competition, hostedpoomsae at the Indooroopilly stadium. Our new Club Poomsae Champion is Freddy Babbage, from our junior division. Other events included Roof Tile Breaking and High Kicking.
Instructor Patrick Harling and Master Mark Buxton broke 8 tiles, with Patrick taking the gold after receiving a bonus tile for a complete stack break. Instructor Steph Bennett won gold in the girl's division after destroying 4 tiles. A whopping 320kg in total was nicely demolished overall.
Michael Mills once again held out in the high kick at 270cm. His next attempt at 278cm, for fun, was high enough but narrowly missed the target. Its okay Michael, we know it's a long way up. His record at 284cm remains.
Competition Patch & Medals
This year, all poomsae competitors may purchase a competition patch for their uniform, only $5. Be sure to order from your coach. As usual, all poomsae competitors will be presented with a certificate. And each member of the placed teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will receive a medal (at Awards Night - Feb). Medal hangers at much reduced prices are still available online, whilst stocks last.
Photos
The event was professionally photographed by Dreamoments, so please look out for your photos, coming soon. The club is heavily subsidising the cost of the photos, so it will be very affordable.
