Brisbane
The 2022 Sun Bae Awards Night (Brisbane) was presented at the Kenmore centre at the OLR school hall on Saturday 4 February 20223 attended by over 250 students, instructors, parents and friends.
THANK YOU
Special thanks to OLR School. Their staff are ever generous and so helpful. Their assistance again greatly assisted in the success of our event. Thank you to all instructors, black belts, parents and students of Sun Bae who worked to bring us such a great event.
OUR HOSTS & PATRON
The hosts of this year's Awards include Sun Bae centres Kenmore (Master Shirly), Mt Gravatt (Master Shirly), Middle Park (Instructor Brendan), Newmarket (Master Shirly), RPK and The Gap (Instructor Ben & Instructor Nicole). We are happy to welcome Instructor John from Toowoomba, our guest for the afternoon. Our patron sponsor for the event and special guest is our grandmaster and founder of the school, Master Bradley Tatnell.
EVENT REPORT & RESULTS
Preceding the event, parents and students took the opportunity to socialise. Once again it was a joy to see all Brisbane Sun Bae centres coming together. BBQ sausage hot dogs and drinks were on offer served personally by our instructors, with whilst the big screen played video archive footage from Sun Bae's history. Thank you to Master Mark who worked the BBQ — not just a master of Taekwondo!
Master Bradley officially commenced the ceremony. We thank him for his kind words and his ongoing efforts throughout the many decades to keep the Korean martial arts alive. Master Bradley is a master instructor in all three Korean arts (Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kumdo) and teaches all the instructors personally. Look our for him as well in our action movie.
Our Master of Ceremony, Master Shirly, kept the award presentations moving along. The event commenced at 4:15 pm and concluded at 5:30 pm. Many awards were presented personally by the Instructors leading up to the finale — Student of the Year. All awards this year were well contested, especially with our Student of the Year. Congratulations to all students who were nominated. A link for this year's Awards Results as well as last year's event are below:

AWARDS MOVIES & DEMONSTRATION TEAM
As usual the main event highlighted some recent action footage from 2022. Special thank you to Instructor Nicole for collating the movie this year. The movie is available below on this page!
And in amongst the presentation of awards, we also enjoyed a live demonstration from our own Sun Bae students. This year the over 40's team hit the floor, notably all red belts! Special thanks to Master Shirly, the Demonstration Team Director. And well done team! (the demo video is available below on this page!). Some background: we are told that the team included a modified version of Taegeuk 8 in honour of Master Bradley's journey to full 8 Dan Taekwondo this year (very clever). In addition, the team members are all in the over 40+ category (some maybe a bit more?) to also honour Master Bradley's age (now 55 years old). The demo certainly received great applause from the crowd, especially the board breaking! Master Bradley: maybe they wont be red belts for too much longer??

MESSAGE FROM MASTER BRADLEY
It was a great joy today to come together as one in Brisbane and to be able to talk to as many of you as possible. For the parents, it is my great hope that our training enables your children to also achieve outside the training hall in all their other endeavours, especially homework. Nothing is more important than a healthy body and a healthy mind. To the Instructors of Sun Bae, you have my admiration and respect — your dedication and devotion is a great example to all who train under you. I congratulate all the students of Sun Bae, striving to do your best and enjoying a great year of martial arts in Taekwondo, Hapkido and some in Kumdo.... Master Bradley Tatnell
