SUN BAE AWARDS 2021
Presented 30 April 2022
Brisbane
The 2021 Sun Bae Awards Night (Brisbane) was presented at the Kenmore centre at the OLR school hall on Saturday 30 April 2022, attended by approximately 350 students, instructors, parents and friends.
Special thanks to OLR School and her kind and ever generous staff! Their assistance greatly assisted in the success of our event (and will not be forgotten). And thank you to all the instructors, black belts and students of Sun Bae who worked to bring us a great event.
Hosting the awards were attending centres Kenmore (Master Shirly), Newmarket (Master Shirly), Mt Gravatt (Master Shirly), Middle Park (Instructor Brendan), Regents Park (Master Mark) and The Gap (Instructor Ben & Instructor Nicole), with a guest appearance from Toowomba's Instructor John. Special guest, Grandmaster and founder of the school, Master Bradley Tatnell, officially commenced the ceremony with some kind and grateful words. Special thanks to him and also to his ongoing efforts throughout the many years to keep the Korean martial arts alive. For those who are not aware, Master Bradley is a master instructor in all three Korean arts (Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kumdo).
The event was preceded by an hour of socialising whilst enjoying BBQ sausage hot dogs and drinks and some interesting video footage from Sun Bae's history. It is the first time the club has come together in Brisbane for awards since 2019. Everyone was in excellent spirit.
Kicking off the event, we were treated to a short action movie, mostly recent grading performances. Special thank you to Master Shirly for her efforts in collating the movie (see below to view).
Awards were presented, the main focus of the event. But if that was not enough, everyone was then treated to a demonstration in Taekwondo and later another demonstration in Hapkido. It was notable that the demo teams were students of all ranks and ages (even including a white belt - well done Nathan!), perhaps the theme to properly demonstrate a realistic expectation of skill levels throughout the journey from white belt to black belt and beyond. Judging by the crowd response, both demos were well received (see below to view). Special thanks to Master Shirly, Demonstration Team Director. Well done team!
Congratulations to everyone in Sun Bae for striving to do your best and enjoying a great year of martial arts in Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kumdo. The official and complete 2021 Awards list is available at the link below:
