Grading Report

We had an exciting grading period at The Gap this March. On Saturday the 22nd, two students applied for Dan ranks (1st Dan Bo and 1st Dan Bo Demo). Then, on Tuesday the 25th, our gup students (Yellow I to Red I) took part in the coloured belt grading held locally at The Gap. Finally, on Saturday the 29th, we travelled to Toowoomba to support one of our students as they graded for their 1st Dan Bo.

Overall, it was a fantastic round of gradings. I'm incredibly proud of my students and everything they've accomplished this quarter.

Results

Yellow Belts:

Ella St Clair promoted to Yellow II (8th Gup) with Honours

Theodore Lawrence promoted to Yellow II (8th Gup)

Aston Simpson promoted to Yellow II (8th Gup) with Honours

Pritikah Shashitheran promoted to Yellow III (7th Gup)

Oliver Pamic promoted to Yellow III (7th Gup)

Blue Belts:

Andre Dua promoted to Blue I (6th Gup)

Red Belts:

Aurelius Bodisco promoted to Red I (3rd Gup) with Honours

Shourya Singh promoted to Red I (3rd Gup)

Josh Challen promoted to Red II (2nd Gup)

Dan Results:

Congratulations to Luke Shuley who successfully passed his Black Belt demonstration, Luke will grade for is 1st Dan Bo in July. I look forward to growing The Gap's Black Belt family.

This Jan-Mar period we also welcomed new students: Alexander Francis, Idhant Mahendra, Carolyn McCall, Coen Richards, Oliver and Olivia Yang, and Tom and Rex Baker (joined at the end of last year).

Since joining our new white belts having been working hard! So far we’ve had the following interim gradings:

Tom Baker: White belt Yellow-stripe

Rex Baker: White belt Yellow-stripe

Tiago Barbosa: White belt Blue-stripe & White belt Red-stripe

Toby Bullock: White belt Blue-stripe & White belt Red-stripe

Alexander Francis: White belt Yellow-stripe

Coen Richards: White belt Yellow-stripe

Oliver Yang: White belt Yellow-stripe & White belt Blue-stripe

Olivia Yang: White belt Yellow-stripe & White belt Blue-stripe

Two of our junior 1^st Gups (Red III) have also participated in their interim gradings so far this year, both Eli Etherington and Henry Liang completed their Red III Yellow-stripe grading, a mammoth effort perfecting all of their poomsae (that’s 10 poomsae!).

We look forward to another fantastic quarter at Sun Bae Korean Martial Arts The Gap with lots of exciting things to work on, including the first Hapkido grading of 2025 (in May), sparring, and other fun activities.
